Obituary of James Young

James C. Young, Jr. of Sun Lakes in Banning went home to the Lord on August 23, 2010 after a long, courageous battle with lung cancer. He leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Shirley, a brother Ronald Young of Hollidaysburg, PA, two daughters, and sons-in-law, Sheryl & Carl Zitek and Debbie & Sonny (Curtis) Carroll, of Moreno Valley, a son and daughter-in-law, Mark & Robin Young of Banning, 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, along with a host of family members and friends. He was preceded on the journey home by his parents, James Sr. and Elmira (Wentz) Young, a brother, Francis Young, and two beautiful grandchildren, Sarah Young and Ryan Brown. Jim was born on Aug. 22, 1932 in Hollidaysburg, PA. He graduated from Hollidaysburg High School and served in U.S. Army's 28th division from Pennsylvania. He married the love of his life, Shirley, on Sept. 22, 1951. He retired from Verizon where he worked for more than 34 years. He loved football and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. His gentle spirit and sweet smile will be forever missed by all of us who loved him. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Wiefels & Son, 50 E. Nicolet St., Banning. Viewing at Wiefels and Son Memorial Chapel is on Sun., Aug. 29 from 5:00p.m. - 7:00p.m., followed by the Rosary at 7:00p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Mon., Aug. 30, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church, 157 W. Nicolet St., Banning. Interment immediately follows at Riverside National Cemetery.
