Obituary of Donald Saunders
Donald Vernon Saunders, dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, passed away in the early morning hours of October 13, 2008. Born in Highland Park Michigan, on August 24, 1926, Don was a WWII Naval veteran and graduate of Alma College. While enjoying R&R in San Francisco, Don met the lovely Chloe Carrillo, whom he made his bride in 1947, and who remained his "girl," hispartner, and his love, for 61 years. Together, Don and Chloe raised their 3 children in Cypress and were active members of St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Anaheim. Exceptionally bright, outgoing, and determined, Don rose through the ranks at Life of Virginia and CNA, managing offices throughout Orange and Los Angeles counties. Following a highly regarded 45-year career in insurance sales, Don retired with Chloe and moved to Sun Lakes Country Club in Banning, where he developed long lasting friendships throughout the community and at St. Alban's Episcopal Church inYucaipa.
Don was preceded in death by his eldest son, Doug. He is survived by his beloved wife, Chloe; his children,Judie Manuel of Cypress and Don G. Saunders of Chino Hills; his grandchildren,Maria, Jamie, Bo, Trinitee, Dawne, Jennifer, Laurén, Megan, and Chloé; and hisgreat grandchildren, Marrisa, Rosie, Isabella, Lauren, Mason, Sophie, andKayden.
Don profoundly impacted many lives. All who were blessed to know Don will remember the sparkle in his eyes, the strength of his character, the depthof his faith, his warmth, his generosity, and his selflessness. While he will be greatly missed, our lives are all the richer for having known him. His soul has been called home by the Lord, but his spirit will remain in our hearts forever.
