Obituary of Wanda Wright

Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels. Hebrew 13:2 God looked into the future and saw just what we would need. He dispatched the sweetest angel this side of life will ever meet. Wanda Darlene Wright affectionately known as "TOOTSIE" was born February 3, 1966 to Wilma Allen and Odell Wright in San Bernardino, CA. At the age of 5 years old Tootsie moved to Banning, CA. on Allen Street, she was raised by her mother Wilma and father Billy Joe Allen. At age 8 the family moved to Blanchard Street and there she resided until she was an adult. She attended the Banning School District and graduated from Banning High School class of 1984. She was employed at Casino Morongo Resort & Spa for 18 years. She accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member of Shiloh Baptist Church, serving as vice-president of the women department, she sang in the choir and was very instrumental in the youth department. In July of 1989, Tootsie was blessed with her first born child whom she named Horatio in honor of her maternal grandfather Horace Robinson. And God blessed her in April of 1993 with a daughter she named Dasharay Marie in honor of her sister Rose Marie. Tootsie was a single mother but her children never noticed because she was not only mother to them but also father. She worked hard for her children, sometimes working two jobs, making sure they would never want or need anything. Not only did she take care of her own children but was also a mother figure to her nieces, Tisha, MeMe, Roni, Meshay, Quay, Aniecea & Darcy and her nephews, PeeWee, Boom-Boom Marquise, Man-Man, Quawn, Riece & Remy. Whatever they needed they knew all they had to do was call "AUNTIE TOOTSIE", and she would answer "YES" every time. She enjoyed dancing and as a teenager growing up she would practice dance steps with Jackie Harrell and Lynette Dangerfield, whatever the latest dance they knew it and mastered it. There was not another female on the "Hillside", who could out dance them. Her love for dance continued into her adulthood she was the queen of the CHA-CHA and her favorite song was "Treat Her Like a Lady". She loved her family and would often reminisce about her fun times spent with her cousins the Allen's, Bakers, Harrell's and Wrights. She had a tremendous heart and her home was a safe haven for a lot of children who needed a place to stay. She didn't understand the meaning of no and did everything in her power to make sure everything was all right with everybody she knew and loved. Tootsie was predeceased by her father, Billy Joe Allen; sister, Rose Marie Williams, and biological father, Odell Wright; grandparents, Horace Robinson, Carrie Cheathem, Bertha Houston, and Willie Mae Wright. On Sunday, December 4, 2011, our beloved Tootsie heard God call her name and she passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 45 years old. She leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Wilma Allen of Banning; children, Horatio Wilson, and Dasharay Bridges both of Banning; brother, Rodney Allen (Shelly) of Surprise Arizona; sisters, Kathy (Meechie) Anderson, and Gloria (David) Porter both of Banning; stepbrother, Michael Moore and stepsister, Toddra Mattier both of San Bernardino, CA; 7 nephews, 6 nieces, one great niece, two great nephews. Her mother's best friends whom she lovingly called aunts, Janet Jewell, Vada Houston, Mabel Harrell and Ruth McMorries; God mother, Lucy Smith; God siblings, Terry Glover, Irene & Will Flournay; Godchildren, Sabrina & Tai; uncles, James & Jimmy Allen, and Ricky & Ronnie Reynolds; aunts, Lardine & Tammy Robinson, Jackie Reynolds, Jackie Allen, Naomi Allen, Bertha Rigsby, Ollie Shaw, Delores Collins, Shirley Allen, and a host of cousins, friends and co-workers. She was reliable, independent, self-reliant and strong. If you needed anything she would give you her last, she had nothing bad to say about anyone, if she was your friend then you had a true friend indeed. She will be missed by all of us who knew and loved her. Viewing & Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011from 4pm-8pm at Wiefels & Son Mortuary, 50 E. Nicolet St., Banning, Ca. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11a.m. Friday, Dec. 16, 2011 at First Missionary Baptist 332 N Allen St., Banning, with burial immediately following at San Gorgonio Memorial Park, Banning.
