Obituary of Dorothy Thormodsgard

Dorothy Jean Gayton Thormodsgard was born on August 26, 1922 in Fremont, Nebr., raised and nurtured by Christian parents, Benjamin and Irene Gayton. She went to her heavenly home on April 22, 2013; Dorothy was 90 yrs old. At age 18, she and her family moved to Mill Valley, Calif.; later to San Francisco where they attended services at the Norwegian Lutheran Church. It was there that Dorothy received assurance of her salvation in Jesus. She then moved to Los Angeles, trained at the Lutheran Bible Institute, graduated from UCLA and received a B.A. degree; while attending classes there served as the President of Alpha Delta Chi, a Christian Sorority. Dorothy later moved to Banning, Calif. and attended Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Banning. She became a teacher and taught at Hoffer Elementary School in Banning. In 1992 she moved to Palm Springs and attended Our Savior's Community Church where she taught Sunday school. Dorothy Jean is survived by her children, Paul (Olivia) Thormodsgard of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Carole (Jim) Macias of Palm Springs, Calif.; Eric Thormodsgard of San Diego, Calif. She was preceded in death by her late husband of almost 50 years, Clarence Thormodsgard. A Celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at 9:30 am, Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Wiefels & Son Memorial Chapel, Banning, Calif. Graveside Services and Burial to follow at San Gorgonio Memorial Park, Banning, Calif.
