Obituary of Leroy Holmes
LeRoy M. Holmes passed away on March 20, 2013 at his home in Cherry Valley. He was 73.
LeRoy was born on Dec. 4, 1939 in Mason, Mich. to Ralph Gordon Holmes and Mildred Leona Loudenslager. LeRoy was married for 50 years to Lorraine Holmes. He lived in Cherry Valley for a year and before that in Portland, Ore. for 44 years and Pomona for 21 years.
LeRoy attended Pomona High School in 1958 and received his associate of arts degree from Mt. Hood Community College. LeRoy had been retired for the last 27 years from his job as an instructor at Mt. Hood Community College. He served in the Navy from 1963-65 on board the Kitty Hawk Aircraft carrier (Yoeman) where he had top security clearance. He also served in the Navy reserves from 1966-74.
LeRoy was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Southern California Timing Association, NHRA and Good Guys. Among his achievements was his 50 years of marriage and building a 1929 Ford Roadster from the ground up over the last 45 years.
He was great with cars and any jobs around the house; incredibly generous with his time and resources; loved his family so much; a great sense of humor and very quick-witted. A strong man with faith in God.
He is preceded in death by his father, Ralph Holmes; and mother, Mildred Holmes, both of Redlands.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Holmes, of Cherry Valley; sons, Donald Holmes (Audrey), of McMinnville, Ore., and Paul (Tia) Holmes, of Portland, Ore.; daughter, Rebecca (Ed) Trujillo, of Phoenix, Ariz.; granddaughters, Nicole Holmes, Kaitlin Trujillo and Ashlee Trujillo; grandsons, Austin Trujillo and Andrew Holmes; brothers, Ray (Rachel) Holmes and family; Chuck (Judy) Holmes) and family; uncles, Howard (Olga) Loudenslager and Lyle (BJ) Loudenslager; aunt, Delores Wood; and many cousins.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 1 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Wiefels & Son. Service will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Wiefels & Son. Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 2 at 1:30 p.m. at Riverside National Cemetery, staging area 3. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in LeRoy's name.
