Obituary of Jim Anson
Jim K Anson of Banning, age 65, passed away on Wednesday July 25, 2012. He was born in Fullerton, California May 4, 1947 to Iva May Quinn and Melvin Arthur Anson, their only child.
When he was 15 years old, Jim moved to Banning from Orange County. He played varsity baseball and graduated from Banning High School. He graduated from California State University San Bernardino in 1969 after which he commenced his teaching career in Banning and later taught at Rubidoux High School in Riverside, CA.
Jim coached football at Rubidoux High School and at Riverside City College. He felt most privileged to coach both boys and girls basketball and Bronco Football at his Alma Mater, Banning High. He was inducted into the Bronco Hall of Fame in 1994 for his dedication to the success of student athletes.
Extremely passionate about his community, Jim was heavily involved in Little League, the American Legion and with the Banning Library in researching and documenting the history of Banning and its founding families.
Jim will forever be remembered as a man of stories to tell; days of orange groves as far as the eye could see, valiant passes or key blocks when the game was on the line, heroic patriots from local and US history, are part of the legacy he leaves behind.
He is survived by his ex-wife and advocate, Yolanda Ibarra Anson; son Andrew B. Anson and daughter-in-law Jessica Birling Anson; daughter Xochitl Anson Hulse and son-in-law Brian J. Hulse; granddaughters Marin Hulse (12), Santi Hulse (10), Halyn Hulse (2); and grandson Abram Hulse (5). The family is grateful for the outpour of support from the community including Wiefels Mortuary, the American Legion, the Banning Library, and former players.
A memorial will be held at the Gilman Historic Ranch and Wagon Museum in Banning on Saturday, August 11 at 5pm. The Gilman Ranch and Museum will be open to the community throughout the day complements of the Anson Family.
