Obituary of Gabriela Herrera Castro
Our beloved mother, Gabriela Nava Castro, fondly known as Grace joined the Lord’s choir on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at age 96. She lived a life filled with struggles, triumphs and joy. Her greatest love and joy were her children Phillip (Wanda) Nava, Armand Nava, Pete (Rosalinda) Nava, and Ruth Ann Sanchez (Ernie). She was Grandma Grace to numerous grand- and great-grand-children whom she loved dearly. She also loved her brothers and sisters: Raymond Herrera, Art (Yolanda) Herrera, Mary Carrion, and Esther Wilson. Her son Pete, sister Mary, and son-in-law Ernie preceded her in death. Her first husband Armando Nava was killed in World War 2. Twenty years later she met and married Lupe Castro. They had a long, happy marriage before he died.
Mom was the eldest daughter of Guadalupe and Refugio Herrera. She lived her entire life in the area of Indio, Eagle Mountain, and Beaumont. She helped those less fortunate than herself without thought of praise. She was the best role model. She taught us how to survive the challenges that life brings and to emerge with dignity, grace, joy and a smile.
Tears stain our face and our hearts ache at being separated, but we rejoice that you are resting in the Lord’s arms. You are alive in our hearts and in the tremendous memories we made together. Rest in peace, Mom.
