When I think of Bonnie, I remember how she always wanted people to feel welcome and at home. She may not jump up and start waiting on you, but she always made you feel welcome.
I do not think Bonnie ever let Tom miss a breakfast, unless her health dictated otherwise. I stayed with them more than once and was amazed at the way she always had our breakfast ready each morning. Bonnie was so unselfish and allowed her own family members, as well as Tom's family members to stay with them for extended stays. When I was living with them in CA, Bonnie and I worked in the potato shed. She would get our breakfast and fix all three of our lunches and off to work all three of us would go.
Going back a few years when they farmed in Oklahoma. It was a cold winter day and they lived close to a water creek. For a time frame, it was before Brenda started to school. Tom and I were walking down by the creek and he said for a quarter he would jump in that creek. I said Tom as cold as it is with ice on the ground, you would not do that for a quarter. His response was (you do not know how bad we need a quarter). I told you that to let you know how difficult times were In Oklahoma during their young married life. Not just for them but for many living in Oklahoma during that time period. Clifford was fortunate as he did not come on the scene until they moved to CA. Jason asked me if I remembered Bonnie making biscuits from scratch. There just was no other way to make biscuits back in those days. You had to scratch for everything in order to make them. Over the years things did change and I imagine over time, some of those old scratch biscuits, just fell by the wayside. Time and resources did change and they were able to enjoy some of the finer things of life in their GOLDEN YEARS.
Love and Prayers to all, Bill
