Obituary of Donald D. Haley
Donald D. Haley, 84, passed away on January 13, 2016 in Hemet. He was born March 20, 1931, in Fargo, North Dakota. He graduated from the Naval School of Justice in Newport, served in the Korean War and was assigned to a Seabee battalion as a court reporter in the Philippines. In later years, he became an editor, actor, with a theater group that performed in the L.A. area, a playwright, and poet. An early by-line appeared in the Los Angeles Magazine.
Don was a member of the Pass Area for the 30 years where in 1993 he founded the Pass Poets Society. His poetic talent enabled him to publish several poetry books, his latest being “anything is something & other poems” in 2006.
A kind, caring man, Don, was an inspiration to everyone who knew him. His unusual wit, which can be seen in much of his poetry, brought laughter to many. He will be missed by his good friends Dorothy Familetti-McLean, Vern Schulz, Manuel Novoa, and others. A private inurnment will take place at Riverside National Cemetery.
