Obituary of Edmund Lee Mayhood
Red (Edmund Lee) Mayhood Sr. went home to heaven to be with his Lord on May 1, 2015. He was 84 years old. Red was born on March 4, 1931 in Terry Township Pennsylvania to Robert Alvin Mayhood and Nellie Arabelle Soper. The family moved to Norwich New York in 1943. Red was in the Navy from April 9, 1948 to March 2, 1953, during the Korean War. On January 17, 1953 he married the girl next door, Shirley Ann Drumm. He went to work for Bendix in Sidney New York and worked there for 13 years. After child number 3 Red and Shirley moved to a big old house in Unadilla New York. Red had to take a second job with an oil company to keep the house warm. Two more children were born. In 1966 the family moved to Calif. The defense industry was going strong and Red had his choice of jobs. After a year bouncing around the “city” he took a job in Banning Calif at the Deutsch Company in 1967. Child number 6 was born in 1971. Red worked for Deutsch for 28 years, retiring in 1995. The family started attending Cabazon Community Church in 1967. From 1970 until the day he was promoted to heaven, Red worked for the Lord. He was assistant pastor, interim pastor and pastor off and on for Cabazon Community Church, the last time from 2006 until God said his work on earth was done. For a time in 1979 he served the Lord at Bethany Bible Church. Red was a worker both for the Lord and doing whatever else he could; and he could do many things. He stared working as a six year old boy during the depression and worked at least one job from then on. After he retired from Deutsch he worked for several other places in Banning. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley Ann Mayhood. Six children: Bonnie (Robin) Calder of Banning CA, LuAnn Van Pool of Yucca Valley CA, Edmund Lee (Sharon) Mayhood Jr. of Beaumont, CA, Tracy Mayhood of Kalispell, MT, Eric (Maria) Mayhood of Coachella, CA, and Rebecca Mayhood of Goldfield, NV. 16 living Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandson.
