Obituary of Charles Chappel

Age 93, passed away on May 21, 2012 at Grand Chateau in Menifee, CA. He was born on July 5, 1918 to David D. Chappel and Winnifred Pearl Lacy. He had been a resident of Banning, CA for 38 yrs, previously of Hayden, AZ for 16 yrs, Denver, CO for 4yrs and Redlands, CA for 17 yrs. Charles had an auto parts route which included CA, AZ and No. Mexico. Then he bought Banning Auto Parts and ran it for 33 yrs. He proudly served as a Navy Seabee during WWII. When the war was over, he came home on the carrier Saratoga. He was a member of the Rotary Club, Summit Cemetery Board, American Legion VFW and volunteered at the V.A. Hospital. He received numerous awards for volunteer work in the community. He was also a member of Banning United Methodist Church and also active in the So. Cal. Nash Car Club and Antique Auto Club of America. Charles is survived by his daughter, Karen (Richard) Lacasse of Menifee, CA; son, Nolan Chappel of Banning, CA; granddaughter, Denise (Mike) Burns of Mt. Juliet, TN; grandson, Kevin Eklund of Menifee, CA; great-granddaughter, Leighton Burns of Mt. Juliet, TN; sister, Margaret Paulson and to nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Winnie Chappel and grandson Nolan M. Chappel, both of Banning, CA and parents David & Winnifred Chappel of Monterey Park, CA. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, May 24, 2012 from 4-8pm at Wiefels & Son Mortuary in Banning, CA. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00a.m., on Friday, May 24, 2012, at United Methodist Church of Banning, with gravesite service immediately following at San Gorgonio Memorial Cemetery in Banning, CA.
