Obituary of Irene Marie Link

Irene Marie (nee Heidorn) Link went to be with the Lord, Sunday July 27, 2014. Irene, daughter of Theodore Heidorn and Marta (nee Kindermann) Heidorn passed away peacefully July 27th after a brief battle with cancer. She is survived by her brother Dieter, her four children; Diane (Art) Ruble, Susie Link, Marlene (Danny) Duerksen, and Ted (Kimberley) Link, nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Theodore and Marta, her loving husband of fifty-two years Paul W. Link, and her grandson Brian Ruble. Irene was born November 10, 1935 in Hamburg, Germany and emigrated from there in June of 1955. The same week she left Germany, she was introduced by her Aunt Frieda to Paul Link, with whom she would share over fifty years of marriage in their one home in Banning, California. Following the birth of her three daughters and son, Irene went to college, achieved double Bachelors and a Masters Degree from UC Riverside and University of Laverne, respectively. She taught at Banning High School, retiring with tenure in the summer of 2000. A frequent world traveler, avid gardener, and devout Christian, Irene will be remembered for her tropical gardens where she could usually be found among her fruit trees and vegetable plants. Irene enjoyed sharing stories, photos, and souvenirs from her travels where she lived out her dream of being an explorer. Irene supported numerous charitable organizations on the behalf of children and animals in need. She will be dearly missed by her family as the organizer of grand holiday dinners at “Grandma’s House” and weekly phone calls for family news. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 1, 2014, at Life Point Church, 565 N. San Gorgonio Ave., Banning, California. Irene will be laid to rest with her husband Paul at Riverside National Cemetery. Internment service will be private.
