Obituary of Virginia St. Marie

Virginia Theda St. Marie a member of the Morongo Indian Reservation who was born on November 4, 1919, Passed away on May 31, 2007. She was the youngest of the six children of Robert St. Marie and Clara Welmas St. Marie, and was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings. In her early childhood years her family moved to the Los Angeles area where her father worked in the movie industry. As a young girl she attended Sherman Indian School in Riverside where she learned to weld during the years of the 40's. She lived in San Diego and helped build the airplanes. In the later years she moved to the Montebello area and worked for Max Factor Cosmetics Company, than in the 80's she decided it was time to retire and come home to the Morongo Reservation. She attended St. Mary's Catholic Church and became involved in various committees on the reservation. She enjoyed getting in her little Honda and picking up her sister's of which she was the youngest and traveling to the various reservation to attend Pow-Wow's, Weddings and funerals and many other reasons she could find to socialize with her former Sherman classmates and various relatives. She enjoyed participating in all Morongo Elder's activities. And had the uncanny knack of remembering the birthdays of all of her 266 Nieces and Nephews 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generations, She never married or had children of her own however she took the role of Mother to a couple of her first generation Nieces and Nephews. You could find her any evening of the week playing bingo with special friends. Her many nieces and nephews and friends will miss her dearly
