Obituary of Seferina Buitron
Age 97, of Banning, passed away peacefully with her granddaughter, Juanita Becerra by her side on March 12, 2012. She was born February 11, 1915 in Banning, where she resided her entire life. She was the eldest daughter of Daniel and Eleanor Estrada-Gonzales. Sefe had six brothers and five sisters with Carmen Albarran being her last living sibling. She raised two children, Mary Lara and Christopher Gonzales. Mary had seven children, Laurie (Gabriel) Lara-Garcia, Larry (Tracy) Lara, Juanita (Daniel) Becerra, David (Toni) Lara, James Lara, Susan Lara, and Ronald Lara. Chris (Annie) has three children, Christopher Gonzales Jr., Richard Gonzales, and Christina Gonzales. Her grandchildren gave her 24 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren. If you're keeping track you will see Sefe was the core of 50+ person family.
Other than that her family, one of Sefe's proudest accomplishments was being the top shirt presser at the Mojave Shirt Factory. If you ever had the chance to have a conversation with her about work or even clothing in general, she wouldn't hesitate to let you know about her award.
If it wasn't this story then she was sure to tell you about the time she met "The Duke" John Wayne. She wasn't able to tell you that story without smiling and blushing like a little school girl. One of her fondest memories.
Her favorite pastimes included, watching the Dodgers because it reminded her of her brother, and watching the Lakers. If she couldn't watch her favorite teams play she would watch Sponge Bob Square Pants. She may have been 97 but she was still a kid at heart. While she watched her sports or her favorite cartoons her snacks and chocolate was never more than an arms length away.
She loved her chocolate very much and one of the things her great grandchildren loved to do was try and steal a piece. It was a game to us and never a good thing to be the loser of the game because we knew it meant the wire fly swatter was coming. Not only is she leaving behind wonderful memories but also centuries worth of information to her family, whether it be family traditions or her mother's recipes, it's all being shared and passed down to even the youngest member of our family.
Sefe has now joined her parents, brothers, sisters and her granddaughter Susan. She will be laid to rest with Susan at San Gorgonio Memorial Park.
Tuesday, March 20, 2012 viewing is at 4pm and the Rosary at 7pm and will be held at Wiefels & Son Mortuary. Wednesday March 21, 2012 at 10am, will be held at Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha parish (precious blood).
